This is the second time a project has been shortlisted for a SPACES Award with our ELAM project being nominated for the same award last year.

The SPACES (Society for Public Architecture, Construction, Engineering and Surveying) awards shortlist projects for their annual Civic Building of the Year award.

Their objectives are:

  • To promote buildings in local authorities together with high standards of practice
  • To facilitate the sharing of the knowledge and experience of members
  • To develop the skills and expertise of members
  • To represent the interests of members to other organisations

Equally it is committed to assisting its members in achieving the highest possible standards in the development, design, construction and management of the public sector estate.

This is another award together with the recent Sussex Heritage Trust Award as well as being shortlisted for ‘Project of the Year’ at this years Education Estates awards proving what a magnificent project this is.

The former Carmelite Convent site in Hunston, West Sussex, built in 1870, had fallen into a dilapidated state following the building being vacated in 1994.

The convent was then rebuilt and renovated to accommodate a new ‘all through’ school building with the Convent to becoming the ‘Heart of the School’.

After 18 months of construction, the new school was completed in Summer 2018 and students and staff officially moved in, in time for the new school year in September.

The school and staff are enjoying a much larger site that holds so much significant local history. The grounds surrounding the convent are also being used as Multi-Use games areas and allotments for outdoor learning.

Congratulations once again to our fantastic team and to Farrans on delivering this great building and we hope to see more award nominations for this project in the near future.
