Addington Valley Academy Planning Approved
The scheme is an all through, co-educational special education needs (SEN) School for 150 pupils aged between 2-19 predominantly with a wide range of learning difficulties some of which with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) or moderate learning difficulties.
The proposals respond to the increasing demand for spaces dedicated to Special Educational Needs (SEN) pupils within the Borough. This initiative aims to alleviate the current strain on existing mainstream schools, which are often required to accommodate SEN pupils without having the specialized resources and support that these students need. By expanding the number of available spaces specifically designed for SEN pupils, we can ensure that these children receive the tailored education and support they deserve, within their local community.
Additionally, this initiative will significantly reduce the need for primary-aged pupils with special needs to travel to neighboring areas to attend school. Currently, many families are compelled to send their children to distant schools to access appropriate SEN services, which can be both time-consuming and disruptive. By providing more local options, we can foster a more inclusive and supportive educational environment close to home.
Addington Valley Academy is another project within our specialist SEN area and follows on from our latest SEN project, the Austen Academy in Basingstoke.
