Barton Court Construction Update

Construction is progressing well on our Barton Court School project in Canterbury, Kent.
The structure and slabs have all completed while the roof of the main building is also complete.
The new school which received unanimous planning approval by Kent County Council is being developed on the former Chaucer Technology School site.
The video above shows an impression of what the new school will look like.
Barton Court School, part of the Barton Court Academy Trust, will cater for pupils aged between 11 and 19 years and will include a brand new building with accompanying sports block, multi-use games area (MUGA), grass sports pitches and extensive landscaping.

The new school replaces the former Chaucer Technology School

Included in the design, facilities will provide for catering technology, textiles, hair, beauty and therapy.

There will also be provisions for Art and 3D design, digital technologies, business and finance, IT and health and social care.

The internal design of the project has been developed around 4 central 3-storey atrium’s creating vertical connectivity as well as providing excellently lit central spaces.

A mix of robust and modern design features have been incorporated into the external composition of the building, ensuring a striking aesthetic for all users of the new School.

Students last left the Chaucer Technology site four years ago, leaving a mix of derelict buildings and rubble on the site.

The former school opened on the site in Spring Lane in September 1967, where it has remained ever since.

Year 7 pupils are scheduled to attend the new school in September 2021.
