Luminous Oak Academy is a new 125-place special school in Boorley Green, near Eastleigh, for pupils aged eight to sixteen with social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH).

The purpose-built academy provides a safe, nurturing and stimulating learning environment designed around the varied needs of its pupils. The accommodation includes general and specialist teaching classrooms, sensory and therapy spaces, small-group rooms, a fitness suite and shared assembly and dining facilities.

Primary and secondary pupils are accommodated in separate wings, each with its own secure entrance and direct access to dedicated outdoor areas. The school also incorporates a specialist high-needs facility known as the Eden Suite, with its own secure courtyard and play equipment.

Externally, the academy provides hard and soft play areas, a multi-use games area, playing fields and carefully considered landscaping. A dedicated one-way drop-off arrangement supports the safe arrival and departure of pupils travelling by minibus and taxi.

The design was developed in consultation with special educational needs specialists to create an inclusive environment that supports pupils’ wellbeing, emotional resilience and independence.

The concept design for the scheme was prepared by Hampshire County Council Property Services. Noviun Architects was subsequently appointed as Architect and Lead Designer to develop and deliver the design in partnership with Hampshire County Council and Tilbury Douglas.

Completed in 2026, Luminous Oak Academy forms part of Hampshire County Council’s wider investment in specialist educational provision. The school is operated by Solent Academies Trust.
