Mayfield School, Portsmouth

Mayfield School in Portsmouth will be a replacement school building for the existing Mayfield School and its 1,510 pupils.

The existing facilities are no longer suitable for a modern curriculum and requiring ongoing maintenance and repair.

In it’s place will be an ‘All-Through’ school catering for pupils from Nursery to Secondary ages.

Included in the design of the new building there will be outdoor sports pitches and an innovative STEAM Centre focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths.

The constrained site, existing building and local context has had a significant impact on the design.

In addition the proposed building is to be built completely in brick, sharing a similar palette of colours to the existing building.

Furthermore as part of the design, existing elements of the building have been retained and integrated into the new site layout.

The existing portico will be reused as an external performance space and existing Bath stone reclaimed to display art on the proposed entrance pathway.
