Empowering Future Architects

Our apprenticeship programs are at the heart of our mission to innovate and grow. By offering a blend of on-the-job training and academic learning, we empower our apprentices to build their careers on a solid foundation of knowledge and hands-on experience.

Hearing directly from our apprentices, it’s clear that Noviun isn’t just a place to work; it’s a place to grow, learn, and belong. Current Noviun apprentices Grace Tapley and James Dack shed light on the supportive, collaborative environment that fosters their development:

I am currently in my first year of a four-year Architect Degree Apprenticeship (Master of Architecture and Professional Practice) with Noviun and the University of Portsmouth. I chose to follow the apprenticeship route because I am passionate about architecture and was seeking a practical, hands-on approach to learning. Recognising that becoming a registered architect requires a combination of education and work experience, I was drawn to the apprenticeship as it integrates academic coursework with professional practice.

Noviun has been incredibly supportive of my development, creating a structured environment which has been instrumental in honing my technical knowledge, creativity, and problem-solving skills under the guidance of experienced mentors. Working on real architectural projects in practice has provided me with valuable exposure to the design process, whilst topics covered at university, including urbanism, landscape, and sustainability, complement my practical experiences at Noviun. I have had the chance to connect with professionals across the construction industry, further enhancing my knowledge and confidence as I work towards becoming a fully qualified architect.

– Grace Tapley, Architectural Assistant

I embarked on my architectural apprenticeship journey in September 2023, a program designed to enable students to achieve their architectural qualifications while actively working in a practice four days a week. Despite completing my part 1 qualification through the conventional university route, I can confidently say that had I known about the apprenticeship earlier, I would have chosen this path over the traditional one.

In my opinion, the architectural apprenticeship is the best way to progress through architectural education. Like all disciplines similar to architecture, experience is a crucial factor that distinguishes individuals. Upon graduation from the apprenticeship, one would have accumulated six extra years of practical experience compared to those following the traditional route.

Experience is just one of the numerous advantages; the program also offers the opportunity to earn while learning, apply acquired skills in a real-world setting, and avoid graduating with substantial debt. Admittedly, the workload is substantial, but since starting the apprenticeship, I have consistently felt supported and never overwhelmed.
