Noviun are delighted to announce that our Meadow High School project in Harefield has been granted planning approval by the London Borough of Hillingdon.
The intention is for this building and its immediate surroundings to be used by Meadow High School. Meadow High School is a SEND school catering for 257 pupils.
Despite a new-build project recently constructed on the site, facilities need to be increased to suit demand. Currently, there are only three schools in Hillingdon that offer support to pupils with SEND and they have all reached their maximum capacity.
This is the second part of a two-phase project the council is undertaking to augment Special Education Needs facilities in Hillingdon, having already commenced on a new campus in Uxbridge.
Previous Planning Approval
The original proposal for this scheme included an extension and intensive refurbishment to the existing residential building.
Permission was granted in 2022 for the ‘Change of use of the former residential school to an education facility, two-storey extension to provide additional teaching space, construction of a Multi-Use Games Area, revised vehicular access, landscaping, car and cycle parking, and associated works’.
The existing residential block is no longer proposed to be retained as it cannot be adapted to meet standards without significant structural changes.
The ultimate goal is to create a safe and functional environment that meets the needs of its intended SEND users.
Starting from scratch with a new building can provide more design flexibility to create an optimal learning environment that meets the specific needs of SEND students and complies with BB104 requirements.
SEND Experience
Meadow High School is another project to add to our expansive SEND experience. Recently our SEND Director Zane Putne spoke at the Education Estates SEND Conference about the important of lighting within the SEND environment, you can find the talk here.
