When complete, the school will cater for pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs. Operated by Hampshire County Council, the campus also includes a new multi-use games area, hard and soft social spaces, a grassed playfield and landscaping.
Bricklaying started at the beginning of the month and has been completed up to the damp course around the perimeter of the building, with work now focused around the main entrance. A combination of traditional and modern materials make up the external facades of the building. A buff multi-brick has been used to create a welcoming aesthetic for the school, that is complimented and contrasted by modern curtain walling and ribbon windows that allow high levels of natural light into the internal spaces.
All curtain walling, doors and rooflights has been installed and the building is now weathertight. The installation of the partitions is largely complete on the ground floor and the first floor is progressing well and isn’t far behind. A key requirement of Samuel Cody is durability and the project team have worked hard to integrate high levels of robustness into the detailing and finishes.
The new Samuel Cody school is based upon our recently completed Austen Academy project also built for Hampshire County Council.
Work is scheduled to complete in August 2022, with the school open to pupils in September.
