Fulham Cross Academy (FCA) is a 800 place secondary school with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) focus sixth form for students aged 11 to 19 years. Currently, significant parts of the existing school estate have been identified as being in ‘poor condition’ by extensive building surveys. On this basis, the decision was taken by the DfE (Department for Education) to include Fulham Cross Academy in the School Rebuilding Programme, to provide a scheme that replaces and refurbishes buildings based on conditions need.
The proposal seeks to not expand either pupil or staff numbers but to simply replace existing facilities which are no longer fit for purpose. Pupil numbers are currently standing at 552 due to the academy changing from a single sex boys school in September 2020. The FCA is due to reach their capacity of 800 over the next three academic years. The school will continue to maintain staff members of 70 (full time equivalent).
Planning Approval
The councillors at Hammersmith and Fulham last week unanimously approved the plans, with committee members agreeing the need for the site to be upgraded. The members also went on to praise some of the climate initiatives included in the application.
Congratulations to the entire design team on achieving planning permission. We are excited to see this important project move forward and we look forward to providing you with more information as the project progresses.
This news follows the successful planning application last week for our Meadow High School project in Harefield.
