Construction is progressing well on our Livingstone Academy project in Bournemouth, with the first stage of works nearing completion on the two existing buildings.
Extensive renovation works have been carried out to the Grade II listed former Coroner’s Court and Magistrate’s Court buildings, which are due to be completed at the end of March as part of a phased handover to the client.
Through working closely with the contractor and Local Authorities in Bournemouth, great care has been taken to retain & restore the original features of the Coroner’s Court, whilst bringing the building in line with modern standards. Once completed, the Coroner’s Court building will accommodate 6th form students, with the former courtrooms now providing spacious open art classrooms & lecture halls.
The 1960s Magistrates Court has been totally renovated by removing all previous internal partition walls and stripping the building back to its bare structure so that the space could be redesigned, creating large open plan classrooms and learning resource areas for infant pupils.
Externally, the front elevation of the building has been refreshed by the installation of new windows that feature striking aluminum window borders.
Phase two of the project involves the construction of a brand new building which will cater for secondary school level students, including state-of-the-art technology learning zones, science laboratories, a sports hall and two roof terraces with multi use games area, to maximise the use of the space.
Erection of the main structure is now complete and below-ground bricklaying works have already started to build the external skin up to damp course level.
Once finished, the buildings façade will feature a mixture of two contrasting brick types, aluminium cladding panels and large sections of curtain walling.
